Do not want: NBC and Comcast

Reposted from Slashdot: The FCC has approved the merger between Comcast and NBC.

My prediction: Netflix, Hulu, and Google TV won’t be distributing any more video from NBC or Universal Studios (owned by NBC). They’ll be for Comcast subscribers only, and streaming other video services on Comcast will become more and more blocked.

There is a lot of reason to want data connection services and media companies to be separate. I’m not sure why the FCC doesn’t see that.

In other news: I’d like to show my respect for Michael J. Copps, the FCC Commissioner who was good and smart enough to vote against the Comcast/NBC merger.

Fortunately, NBC doesn’t produce any content worth a damn.

I was going to respond that at least Universal did, but it doesn’t seem like they produce very much. Maybe one good movie per year? You’re right, we won’t miss much, but this was still a bad decision.
